Mt. ϵ Speech & Debate Team Wins Three Straight Tournaments

The Mt. ϵ Speech and Debate team secured three consecutive victories during the 2026 Winter Intersession, winning at the University of La Verne “Voices of the Valley”, the Las Positas “Talk Hawk”, and Cerritos College “Tabor-Venitsky” tournaments.

The team won a total of 84 individual awards across the three tournaments. 

At the University of La Verne "Voices of the Valley" Tournament, 21 Mt. ϵ students competed against 15 colleges and universities. The team claimed first place overall with 76 points, outscoring UC Santa Barbara (32 points) and El Camino College (28 points). The team earned 15 top-three finishes, including nine first-place awards.

At the Las Positas "Talk Hawk" Tournament, 23 Mt. ϵ students faced off against 32 colleges and universities, including several top four-year programs and Northern California community college teams. Mt. ϵ won first place in Open Individual Event Sweepstakes and third place in Debate Sweepstakes. The team’s 104 points secured victory over Diablo Valley College (92 points) and Santa Rosa Junior College (49 points).

At the Cerritos College “Tabor-Venitsky” Tournament, Mt. ϵ matched up against 21 other colleges from around the country and took first place in overall sweepstakes with 131 total points, finishing ahead of Moorpark College and El Camino College, which tied with 112 points. The team won awards in every event they entered, including six first place awards.

Mt. ϵ is now transitioning into its championship season, featuring the international championships in Athens, Greece, the State Championships in Northern California, and the Phi Rho Pi National Championships in Washington, D.C.

The campus is invited to attend the Spring Showcase events in late March to support the team before they try to win their third national title in a row.
