Mt. ºÚÁϵ¼º½ recently received just over $68,000 through the California Community College Chancellor’s Office to establish a Hunger Free Campus program at the college.

To be headed by the campus’ newly created Homeless and Basic Resources Committee, the Hunger Free Campus program seeks to address nutritional deficiencies among college students. Mt. ºÚÁϵ¼º½ is one of 64 colleges throughout the state that will receive funding for the program.

The project will involve the college either establishing or partnering with a community food pantry and promoting the state’s CalFresh program, formerly the state’s food stamps program. There is also the possibility of working with campus food services provider Sodexo on the project.

This statewide initiative was made possibly with $2.5 million in one-time funding allocated in the 2017-18 state budget.
